Direct marketing — email & SMS (Spam Act 2003)
We send marketing emails and SMS in accordance with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). That means we obtain consent, identify ourselves in each message and include a functional unsubscribe.
-
Emails: use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any message.
-
SMS: reply STOP to opt out at any time (no charge beyond standard network rates). We honour opt‑out requests within 5 working days.
We maintain consent and suppression records (time, source, contact detail, and relevant metadata).
SMS disclosures (AU)
Program description and use of phone numbers
-
When you provide your mobile number and opt in, you consent to receive SMS from us about products, services and updates (e.g., promotions, order or service notifications, and—if you opt in—cart reminders). We store your number and consent status to deliver messages and manage your preferences.
-
We do not sell personal information, including phone numbers. We do not share SMS opt‑in data or consent with non‑affiliated third parties, except with our messaging service providers solely to send messages and manage compliance.
Abandoned cart SMS
-
Our website uses cookies, pixels and plugins to keep track of items placed in your cart, including when you abandon your cart.
Where you have consented to SMS marketing, this information may be used to send cart reminder texts.
Opt‑out
-
You can opt out of SMS at any time by replying STOP. You may also contact us using the details below. We apply your opt‑out across our systems.
Message frequency and charges
-
Message frequency varies. Standard message and data rates from your mobile carrier may apply.
Record‑keeping
-
We keep records needed to prove consent (e.g., timestamp, source, IP or device, form used) and to action opt‑outs promptly.
Messaging apps & chat marketing (Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok)
If you opt in to receive messages from us in social and messaging apps, we will send you updates, offers and service messages in those channels.
-
WhatsApp: business‑initiated messages require explicit opt‑in. You can opt out by replying STOP or via the app’s controls.
-
Messenger/Instagram/TikTok/LinkedIn: you can opt out using channel settings or by sending “stop”.
We may use automations/chatbots to respond or personalise content. Message content and metadata (timestamps, platform ID, consent status) may be stored by our messaging providers to manage your preferences and demonstrate compliance.
Website chat
If you use our on‑site chat, we collect the content of your messages and technical metadata (e.g., IP address, browser).
We use this to respond to your enquiry, improve our services and, if you opt in, to send marketing communications. You can request deletion of chat transcripts unless we need to retain them for legal or security reasons.
Cookies & similar technologies
We use cookies, pixels, SDKs and server‑to‑server connections to operate our site, remember preferences, analyse performance and run advertising. Types include:
-
Essential: required for core functionality (e.g., secure login, checkout).
-
Performance/Analytics: help us understand site usage (e.g., Google Analytics 4).
-
Functionality: remember preferences and improve features.
-
Advertising/Targeting: allow us and our partners to deliver and measure relevant ads.
Managing cookies: Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies. Disabling cookies may limit certain features. For visitors from the EEA/UK, we display a consent banner and honour choices consistent with applicable consent requirements.
Cart tracking: We use cookies/pixels to track cart activity to determine when a cart has been abandoned and, if you have opted in to SMS, to send cart reminder messages.
Advertising & measurement (advanced matching)
We use advertising and analytics platforms to measure performance and show relevant ads. Where enabled, we may share first‑party identifiers (e.g., email or phone) that are hashed (e.g., SHA‑256) before transmission for privacy‑enhanced matching.
Platforms we use may include:
-
Google Ads & Google Analytics 4 (including Enhanced Conversions).
-
Meta (Facebook/Instagram) Pixel and Conversions API with Advanced Matching.
-
TikTok Pixel/Events API with Advanced Matching.
-
LinkedIn Insight Tag and conversion tracking.
Your choices: you can adjust ad preferences in each platform and/or use industry opt‑outs. We also honour your email/SMS/messaging opt‑outs across our systems.
Customer matching, lookalikes & suppression
Where permitted, we may upload hashed customer lists to advertising platforms to build audiences, exclude existing customers from prospecting or measure campaign performance. Platforms are required to use the data only for our advertising in line with their published terms. You can opt out of inclusion by contacting us at the email below.
Payments and third‑party services
Our store is powered by Shopify and may use payment providers such as Shopify Payments and PayPal to process transactions.
Payment details are handled by those providers; Pest IT Pty Ltd does not store full card numbers. For phone orders, card details are not retained.
Other service providers we use include: website hosting/CDN, email/SMS marketing, messaging automation, analytics/advertising, logistics and customer support tools.
We authorise these providers to process personal information only as necessary to deliver their services to us, under appropriate safeguards.
Overseas disclosures
We may disclose personal information to service providers located outside Australia. For example, Shopify processes data in multiple regions (including Canada, the United States, the European Union/United Kingdom via its Irish affiliate, and in APAC). Other providers (payments, email/SMS, chat and advertising) may also process data overseas. We take steps reasonably necessary to ensure overseas recipients handle personal information in accordance with the APPs.
Location-based services (if enabled)
If we enable location-based features, we may collect approximate location (via IP address) or precise location where you grant permission on your device.
We use this to provide localised content (e.g., nearby distributors or service windows). You can disable location permissions in your device or browser settings.
Data retention
We retain customer account and transaction records as required by law and for our legitimate business needs (e.g., tax and audit).
Marketing/contact data is retained until you opt out or we delete it during periodic suppression. Chat/message logs are typically retained for 12–24 months unless needed longer for compliance or disputes. We de‑identify or delete data when it is no longer needed.
Security
We take reasonable administrative, technical and physical measures to protect personal information from loss, misuse, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your rights (access and correction)
You can request access to, or correction of, your personal information by contacting us at nettie@pestit.com. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe.
If you have a complaint about how we handle your information, please contact us first. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) for guidance or to lodge a complaint.
EEA/UK visitors
If you are in the EEA/UK, we will process personal data only where we have a lawful basis (e.g., to perform a contract, with your consent, for our legitimate interests not overridden by your rights, or to comply with legal obligations).
You have rights to access, rectify and erase your data, restrict or object to processing, and to data portability.
Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time. You may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
Third‑party links and embedded content
Our site may include links to third‑party websites or embedded content (e.g., videos). Those third parties may collect data about you, use cookies or track your interaction in accordance with their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for their practices.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted on our website with a new “Last updated” date and takes effect when posted.
